I had read The Partner by John Grisham years ago and have just recently re-read. Like the other Grisham novels I've read, the characters are well done.
The rest of the book details how he attempts to escape the civil and criminal cases against him, intertwined with the details of how he pulled off the scam in the first place. As the book opens, it is four years later and Patrick is discovered. He is really just an arrogant wise-ass, his development is lacking, and his "midlife crisis" motivation was less than compelling. Patrick is then turned over to the FBI.This is all basically summed up in the first thirty pages.I believe Grisham should have written the entire story about this aspect of the story.
He steals ninety million dollars from his law firm. He pretty much single-handedly creates a genre, achieves blockbuster status with only his second novel, and every further effort flies off the bookstore shelves and onto the movie screen. Characters. I'm torn about giving this 4 or 5 stars because the ending of this book taunts me in an intriguing and enjoyably annoying way...I do own Grisham books, but only because family members keep buying them for me on birthday's and xmas's.
The Partner should have ended where it started off. I smile politely and thank them, wishing they would include the receipt.
Grisham did not disappoint.Well, John Grisham has done it again. Overall, I was disappointed because I was led to believe that this was one of his best books, and I didn't find it that enjoyable.I'll give this one a grudging "check it out" rating. He spoke a different language, and spoke it very well. Let's face it, John Grisham is - by all rights - one of the most cynical authors when it comes to lawyers and the justice system. At the end, I have a hard time believing that it could really happen. The ending came as a surprise, but frankly, it was disappointing and silly. Look, dude, you got where you are by following a tried-and-true, formulaic model for popular fiction. TI didn't find this one as entertaining as The Client or The Runaway Jury. Sometimes, I would imagine him going: Sometimes, John Grisham gives me 'forced' endings. Disappointing book. The plot goes through many twists and turns and includes a mysterious girlfriend who helps him navigate a complicated web of legal maneuvers. Attorney Patrick Lanigan disappeared four years ago with $90 million dollars. I was shaking my head in utter surprise and disbelief through each chapter. Mr. Grisham does a good job of gaining sympathy for the character.
He was much thinner and his face had been altered. Certainly no evidence of the fortune they thought he had stolen.
I think that would be a great idea! I have read this, and i don't recommend it unless you are 10 years old and want to start reading adult fiction.
Most were terrifying, the nightmares of the shadows growing bolder and larger. It doesn’t take John Grisham very long to show what an extremely talented writer he is!Another great tale by Grisham, I flew right through it!Another great tale by Grisham, I flew right through it!I didn't find this one as entertaining as The Client or The Runaway Jury.
I don't think it has been made into a movie yet although there may be a TV series pending...Well, John Grisham has done it again. He spoke a different language, and spoke it very well. They watched Danilo Silva for days before they finally grabbed him. Subplots were established and simply forgotten. The Partner. Favorite Answer • Patrick Lanigan- later known as Danilo Silva when he changed his identity when living in Brazil This pathetic attempt at tragedy fell on its face an unsatisfying thud.
Well, mostly bad guy. It is about a man captured in Brazil, who we learn is actually Patrick Lanigan, an American lawyer who everyoe thought was killed in an automobile accident. Summer is a great time to lose yourself in a page-turning mystery. The problem - he's alive, and with 90 million that belongs to a government defense contractor and the lawyer's former partners. He had me at The Firm. In most books such as The Rainmaker and A Time to Kill, just to name a couple, the cynicism works.
The characters from Grisham's other books tend to be above average. That was a surp[Can you make a second book where Patrick Lanigan finds Eva Miranda and has a reunion?

First, here is a basic plot summary. I believe I am more impressed today with the novel than 15 years ago when first published. The whole plot depended on the loyalty of a character that after giving up most of the money and aiding the main character faithfully decides to abscond with the remainder. And then the ending! One would think being that this was part one. Now I admit potentially the plot sounds interesting and clever - but the final product is not.Another issue I had with this novel is the lead character.
Unfortunately, this book was so dull - recollecting some of the plot points is a struggle. Dull, dull, dull.
For starters, Patrick Lanigan is, to me, Grisham's least likable protagonist I have read thus far. And then, when he writes yet another of his books, everyone bashes him for being boring.^M ^M "Poor John Grisham. Because, up until the last page or two, it was a fun read. The Partner by John Grisham is an excellent short story read. I am nI like John Grisham as an author, and though this is not Grisham at the top of his form, it is still a good read. As the book opens, it is four years later and Patrick is discovered.
There was no closure” It is about a man captured in Brazil, who we learn is actually Patrick Lanigan, an American lawyer who everyoe thought was killed in an automobile accident.
And then, when he writes yet another of his books, everyone bashes him for being boring.^M ^M "Long before his name became synonymous with the modern legal thriller, he was working 60-70 hours a week at a small Southaven, Mississippi law practice, squeezing in time before going to the office and during courtroom recesses to work on his hobby—writing his first novel.
Anyway, though it is an entertaining read, this has to be my least favorite of the Grisham novels I've read.
