The author has done very well with his debut!I was surprised to see it there, but very much agree!I got an early copy of this from my bookseller, who couldn't make up her mind about it. A fascinating dynamic is that several of the casual racist remarks Wallace endures comes from his circle of (white) friends. I’m glad I let peer pressure push me past my stereotypes on this one. And Goodreads is a platform that allows students to see what their peers are reading–and enjoying. This debut novel exceeded my expectations. At this same time it was uncomfortable with all its brutality and abuse. I loved that Taylor was not afraid of making Wallace unlikable and problematic at times. by The Wild Rose Press 1 bedroom for her, 1 for her six year old brother Sam, 1 for her parents and one for the carcasses. It is a reality faced by so many, so I feel if you are going to fictionalize it then it needs to be d Real Life is a book that I genuinely don't remember adding to my to be read pile.
Wallace, the man at the center of this novel, is written with such nuance and tenderness and complexity. It's unfair because white people have a vested interest in undermining racism, it's amount, it's intensity, it's shape, its effects. Just a moment while we sign you in to your Goodreads account. This book is definitely not for the faint heaThe nameless narrator of this fierce parable is an amazingly prescient young girl, following her from age 10 through 15, who finds herself from an early age both victim and protector in her household.
