Having grown up in the New York, NY area, he joined the staff of Newsday in 1983, where he became a sports columnist, specializing in baseball. He also currently serves as a senior baseball writer at Sports Illustrated, where he has twice been named a National Magazine Award finalist. He currently resides in Montgomery Township, N.J., with his wife, Kristen.
