If I have any complaints about this deck, it is that at my age, reading this small gray print, against a dark background, is somewhat difficult! The High Priestess shows an Egyptian theme, with one black cat and one white cat at her feet. You may ask a question or just have a general reading. We have a newsletter for everyone!
Lovecraft's writing, and some from his own series on Alhazred. We see the Hermit (with eerie long fingers this is fantasy after all!) At first I must say I am not a Tarot fan at all but I am a big fan of Lovecraft and just thought this would be a fun novelty. The deck itself is populated by gruesome gods, sinister monsters, and all seven rulers of the Old Ones (from the book "Necronomicon"). While unnerving, this is a great image!
I certainly would not recommend this as a beginners deck.
Readers, please enjoy this guest blog post by Craig Spencer, author of the new Aradia. A hundred years later, Donald Tyson wove Lovecraft’s myths and whispers of the dread grimoire into this Tarot deck. Only a handful of the Major Arcana are truly Lovecraftian related, while the minors are bland and veer away from Lovecraft almost completely (a few illustrations involving Bast do not Lovecraft make).
Aug 15, 2014 - The #Necronomicon #Tarot, by Donald Tyson and Anne Stokes. The companion book is written as if the Lovecraft Mythos is some ancient truth; and seems to use this set to plug his other books.
Lovecraft, the occult writer.
The Pips (numbered cards) show the card number and suit in small gray text across the bottom of the card. I would have given it 4 or 5 if the description gave fair warning that the box was missing but there was no indication, I just got it wrapped in some paper and bubble wrap. Discover gorgeously illustrated annuals with all sorts Why not try something new that may be out of your comfort zone? One last note on the Pips each suit, as noted above, follows a specific storyline.
The "unmentionable Necronomicon of the mad Arab Abdul Alhazred" is best known from the references that appear in the short stories of H. P. Lovecraft (1890–1937) and other authors who wrote stories grouped together as part of the "Cthulhu Mythos." This makes the Necronomicon Tarot the first deck that is completely usable as a Tarot with any Tarot spread.
Secrets of the Necronomicon Tarot. The female counterpart of Dambala.
The storyline for the suit of Wands is that of the arrogant and aristocratic Atlanteans with the Deep Ones, and the resulting civil war. But if you were doing a reading for someone with these cards, what you were telling them would not resonate with the energy that they were picking up from the cards! Necronomicon Tarot illustrations are copyright © 2007 by Anne Stokes. Sadly, this seems to be a reoccurance with products and the problem is that to mail it back means spending extra $. The storyline for the suit of Disks is that of a necromancer, and his dark ritual as he tries to compel the spirit of a dead woman to reveal the burial place of a strongbox containing a potent mystery. Would have been 5 but the box (not the one both the book and cards came in but the one the cards themselves came in) was missing. Readers, please enjoy this guest blog post by Cyndi Dale, author of a number of books, including the new Energy Healing for Trauma, Stress & Chronic Illness. Seventy-eight captivating illustrations by fantasy artist Anne Stokes capture the mythic and monstrous world of Tyson's Necronomicon while remaining true to the underlying structure and tradition of tarot. They are slick, which takes a bit of careful handling.
Lovecraft's work, along with the storyline presented by Donald Tyson, into a stunning deck. Necronomicon Tarotby Anne Stokes, Artist & Donald Tyson, Author Gruesome gods, sinister monsters, and other strange creatures lurk throughout this fully functional tarot deck. The World shows a snake wrapped around a large black egg, holding a glowing ball in its mouth. The Court Cards are distinct classes of human beings that might be found in the same writings. A hundred years later, Donald Tyson wove Lovecraft’s myths and whispers of the dread grimoire into this Tarot deck.
